Molecular and industrial aspects of glucose isomerase

Article Abstract:

The production of high-fructose corn syrup involves the reversible isomerization of D-glucose and D-xylose to D-fructose and D-xylulose respectively by glucose isomerase (GI). Microbial strains that utilize xylan-containing raw materials are being developed to discontinue the use of xylose to induce GI formation. The elimination of Co2+ from the fermentation substrate is necessary to avoid health problems. The xylA and xylB of the xyl operon, that encodes GI, are highly conserved in all bacteria.

Inheritance of intersimple sequence repeat markers in citrus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the inheritance of intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers amplified by primers in progeny trees resulting from a cross between two Citrus x Poncirus hybrids. The ISSR markers were inherited in a dominant fashion. Polymorphic fragments were then determined as present or absent. Results indicated that each of the ISSR primers produced a banding profile characterized by several amplification products.
