Molecular characterization of diazotrophic and denitrifying bacteria associated with mangrove roots

Article Abstract:

The molecular diversity of [N.sub.2] fixers and denitrifiers associated with mangrove roots are analyzed by using terminal restriction length polymorphism (T-RFLP) of [N.sub.2] fixation (nifH) and nirS and nirK (denitrification) and the compositions and structures of these communities. The phylogenetic trees of nifH, nirK and nirS have shown that most of the cloned sequences are similar to sequences from the rhizosphere isolates than to those from known strains or other environments.

Possible role of xanthobaccins produced by Stenotrophomonas sp. strain SB-K88 in suppression of sugar beet damping-off disease

Article Abstract:

Xanthobaccins produced by Stenotrophomonas sp. strain SB-K88 may have a role in suppression of sugar beet damping off. It was found that Xanthobaccin A produced by strain SB-K88 likely can have a key role in suppression of sugar beet damping-off disease when applied to seeds. Three xanthobaccin antifungal compounds were isolated from culture fluid of the strain of Stenotrophomonas, a rhizobacterium of sugar beet.
