Molecular characterization of the lactococcal plasmid pCIS3: natural stacking of specificity subunits of a type I restriction/modification system in a single lactococcal strain

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris strain plasmid. Results indicate that it mediates a restriction/modification phenotype.

Lactococcal plasmid pNP40 encodes a novel, temperature-sensitive restriction-modification system

Article Abstract:

The presence of a novel restriction-modification system designated LlaJI, present on the conjugative lactococcal plasmid pNP40 is reported. The Northern blot analysis showed that the four LlaJI genes were part of a 6-kb operon and revealed that the LlaJI operon appears to be subject to transcriptional regulation by as yet unidentified elements encoded by pNP40.

Structural and functional analysis of pCI65st, a 6.5 kb plasmid from Streptococcus thermophilus NDI-6

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the characteristics and function of the cryptic plasmid pC165 from a subcloned and sequenced Streptococcus thermophilus NDI-6. Cultures were cultivated at 42 degrees C in Elliker broth. Experimental results indicated that the plasmid may support a critical function in heat-shock responses. Findings also showed that the presence of pC165st promotes a level of uninduced resistance to stress.
