Molecular cloning, sequencing, and expression of omp-40, the gene coding for major outer membrane protein from the acidophilic bacterium Thiobacillus ferrooxidance

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Thiobacillus ferooxidance. The isolation and characterization of the gene that codes for the outer membrane protein from T. ferrooxidance have been performed.

Differential protein expression during growth of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans on ferrous iron, sulfur compounds or metal sulfides

Article Abstract:

Two-dimensional polyarcylamide gel electrophoresis was used to characterize the set of proteins that changed their levels of synthesis during growth of Acidithiobacillus ferroxidans ATCC 19859 on metal sulfides, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur and ferrous iron. The results indicate that synthesis of several proteins related to sulfur metabolism, including oxidation and acquisition, was induced when the microorganisms grew on reduced inorganic sulfur forms.

Evidence for a functional quorum-sensing type AI-1 system in the extremophilic bacterium Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans

Article Abstract:

The existence and characterization of a functional type AI-1 quoron sensing in Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is reported. Results provide an interesting opportunity to explore the control and regulation of biofilm formation during the bioleaching process.
