Novel tetracycline resistance determinant isolated from an environmental strain of Serratia marcescens

Article Abstract:

An environmental strain of Serratia marcescens containing the tetracycline resistance determinant is isolated and characterized. The results have shown that the cloned Tet41 determinant has not given mercury resistance to Escherichia coli, thereby confirming that Tet 41 is a tetracycline-specific efflux pump rather than a multidrug transporter.

Inhibition of Quorum sensing in Serratia marcescens AS-1 by synthetic analogs of N-Acylhomoserine lactone

Article Abstract:

A series of N-acyl cyclopentylamides is synthesized with acyl chain lengths ranging from 4 to 12 and their inhibitory effects on prodigiosin production in AS-1are estimated. It is observed that N-nonanoyl-cyclopentylamide ([C.sub.9]-CPA) is an effective quorum-sensing inhibitor for Serratia marcescens AS-1.

Size and UV germicidal irradiation susceptibility of Serratia marcescens when aerosolized from different suspending media

Article Abstract:

The effect of the composition of the suspending medium on the size and the UV germicidal irradiation (UVGI) susceptibility of Serratia marcescens is studied in the presence of an experimental system. The size and UVGI susceptibility of Serratia marcescens is affected by the selection of the medium.
