Pch2 links chromatin silencing to meiotic checkpoint control

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the functions of the novel gene, Pch2. Results of experiment in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae indicate that the Pch2 gene serves as an essential part of the meiotic checkpoint that inhibits chromatin segregation when recombination and chromosome synapsis are deficient. It was also observed that the concentration of Pch2 protein in the nucleolus suppresses meiotic interhomolog recombination in the ribosomal DNA.

Aip2, a meiosis-specific protein required for the initiation of chromosome synapsis

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to identify and characterize the Zip2 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This gene was observed to encode a meiosis-specific protein needed for synaptonemal complex formation. Test results revealed that Zip2 promotes the initiation of chromosome synapsis. In addition, Zip2 localization to recombination sites ensures synapsis between homologous chromosomes.
