Structure of PAK1 in an autoinhibited conformation reveals a multistage switch

Article Abstract:

Crystal structural studies of the C-terminal domian of p21-activated kinase1 reveals that GTPase binding causes conformational changes in the enzyme. Data further indicate that an inhibitory switch domain overlaps the GTPase binding region of the enzyme.

Motor protein receptors: moonlighting on other jobs

Article Abstract:

This review documents research in the area of motor protein receptors, their identification, characterization, and function. Five recently discovered motor receptors namely, proteins of coat, modular scaffold, transmembrane, small regulatory GTPases, and other unidentified motor proteins are described.

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinase alpha is a downstream effector of the small G protein ARF6 in membrane ruffle formation

Article Abstract:

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate 5-kinase alpha, a downstream effector of the small G protein ARF6 in membrane ruffle formation, is discussed. When ARF6 is activated by stimulation from an agonist, it brings on recruitment of a diverse set of signaling molecules into active cytoskeletal and membrane rearrangement sites. These signaling molecules are interactive. Colocalization of ARF6 is seen in ruffling membranes formed where AlF(sub.4) and EGF stimulation exist. It is blocked by dominant-negative ARF6.
