Physical identification of a chromosomal locus encoding biosynthetic genes for the lipopeptide calcium-dependent antibiotic (CDA) of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2)

Article Abstract:

An experiment is made to determine if the biosynthetic genes for the lipopeptide calcium-dependent antibiotic of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) can be cloned. In this study, a PCR-based technique was used to isolate peptide-synthetase-encoding DNA fragments from the bacteria's chromosome. Results confirm the cloning of the genes as seen from disruptions in calcium-dependent antibiotic production.

The Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) lipAR operon encodes an extracellular lipase and a new type of transcriptional regulator

Article Abstract:

The Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) lipAR operon is discussed. It has been found that it encodes a new type of transcriptional regulator and an extracellular lipase. A lipase-deficient strain of S. coelicolor was generated. It was found to be slightly affected in production of the polyketide antibiotic actinorhodin.

Genetic suppression analysis of non-antibiotic-producing mutants of the Streptomyces coelicolor absA locus

Article Abstract:

Non-antibiotic-producing mutants of the Streptomyces coelicolor absA locus are discussed relative to genetic suppression analysis. The locus was identified for mutations which uncoupled sporulation in it from antibiotic synthesis.
