PCR use of highly conserved DNA regions for identification of Sinorhizobium meliloti

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe four PCR primers that recognize the nodbox 4 locus and the mucR gene of Sinorhizobium meliloti. These regions are specific for this species and are highly conserved.

Polychlorinated biphenyl rhizoremediation by Pseudomonas fluorescens F113 derivatives, using a Sinorhizobium melitoti nod system to drive bhp gene expression

Article Abstract:

Heterologous rhizobial nodulation (nod) promoters from Sinorhizobium meliloti and its regulatory systems are tested to drive the expression of the bhp operon in Pseudomonas fluorescens F113 derivatives. The analysis showed that nodbox 4 from Sinorhizobium meliloti has a high level of expression in F113 that is dependant on an intact nodD1 gene.

Ionic stress and osmotic pressure induce different alterations in the lipopolysaccharide of a Rhizobium meliloti strain

Article Abstract:

The ability of Rhizobium meliloti to tolerate high concentrations of salt in marshes may be related to changes in its lipopolysaccharide (LPS) structure in response to salt stress. The EFB1 strain of the bacteria can grow in concentrations of NaCl as high as 500mM. Electrophoresis and antibody assays indicated that the LPS of this strain changed in response to ionic stress and osmotic stress.
