Population differentiation and the effects of herbivory and sand compaction on the subterranean growth of a desert lily
Article Abstract:
A study seeks to determine the relative importance of environmental and genetic factors and the interaction between them on the expression of an avoidance strategy of the desert lily Pancratium sickenbergeri. Results indicate that mean bulb depth of the desert lily differs considerably among populations differing in the level of herbivory by the dorcas gazelle, with a possible confounding factor being the degree of sand compaction, which may retard the downward growth of the bulb.

Architectural design and the collaborative research environment
Article Abstract:
Architects are striving hard to design new research buildings that provide a more pleasant workspace and also facilitate interactions among researchers. This improved collaboration between researchers effectively leads to scientific breakthroughs and benefits humankind, and at the same time architects also get benefited immeasurably from a more scientific, empirical basis for making design decisions.
