Possible involvement of cAMP in aerial mycelium formation and secondary metabolism in Streptomyces griseus

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of the Streptomyces griseus mutant strain HO2 and examine the possible function supported by cAMP in secondary metabolism and cell differentiation in S. griseus. Results indicated that the synthesis of the stringent response factor ppGPP was greatly minimized and may account for the suppression by cAMP of morphogenesis and secondary metabolism.

A Streptomyces griseus gene (sgaA) suppresses the growth disturbance caused by high osmolality and a high concentration of A-factor during early growth

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the growth patterns of organism Streptomyces griseus are controlled by a gene 5.5 kb upstream of the afsA locus on wild-type strain chromosome. The sgaA gene overcomes growth disturbance caused by 2-isocapryloyl-3R-hydroxymethyl-gamma-butyrolactone (A-factor) and high osmolarity. Growth disturbance patterns using varying levels of A-factor and osmolarity were compared.

A putative regulatory element for carbon-source-dependent differentiation in Streptomyces griseus

Article Abstract:

A putative regulatory element for Streptomyces griseus carbon-source-dependent differentiation is discussed relative to study which used cloning of DNA fragments repressing the normal developmental processes. One of the DNA fragments markedly repressed aerial mycelium and spore formation on glucose or galactose solid media.
