Premeiotic clusters of mutation and the cost of natural selection

Article Abstract:

Premeiotic mutation occur frequently in individuals (germical mosaics), giving rise to multiple copies of identical mutant alleles called a 'cluster' (C) with an initial allele frequency of C/(2N) instead of 1/(2N). These clusters of new mutant alleles reduce the cost of natural selection in direct proportion to the relative size of the cluster.

Modes of Selection and Recombination Response in Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

Research on Drosophila melanogaster sternopleural bristle number shows that individual fitness is enhanced through genetic recombination when environmental changes impact species populations. Evidence also suggests that rates of crossing over may be reduced in populations that are undergoing stabilizing selection.

The Ecological Genetics of Homoploid Hybrid Speciation

Article Abstract:

In-depth analysis presented indicates that ecological selection plays a key role in fostering homoploid hybrid speciation. Both theoretical developments and empirical evidence are included, with the most significant findings emerging from genetic studies.
