Promoting in tandem: the promoter for telomere transposon HeT-A and implications for the evolution of retroviral LTRs

Article Abstract:

The promoter activity of HeT-A sequences was analyzed by utilizing reporter constructs that are transiently transfected into cultured Drosophila cells (Schneider cell line 2). Analysis of Schneider cells with HeT-A ribonucleic acid (RNA) indicated the presence of a Het-A promoter that is similar to retroviruses and non-long terminal repeat (non-LTR) retrotransposons. The non-LTR retrotransposon exhibited a head-to-tail organization and Het-A elements with invariant polar orientation on the ends of chromosomes.

A mammalian RNA polymerase II holoenzyme containing all components required for promoter-specific transcription initiation

Article Abstract:

All components needed for promoter-specific transcription initiation are present in a mammalian RNA polymerase II holoenzyme. All components of RNA polymerase II transcription apparatus needed for initiation are coimmunoprecipitated by a monoclonal MO15/CDK7 antibody. The immunoprecipitate is obtained from a rat liver nuclear extract and contains RNA polymerase II, TFIID, TFIIB, TFIIH, TFIIF and TFIIE. Transcriptional activator proteins are absent.

Estrogen receptor-alpha directs ordered, cyclical, and combinatorial recruitment of cofactors on a natural target promoter

Article Abstract:

Research describes the events surrounding transcriptional activation of a gene in terms of estrogen receptor-alpha target pS2 gene promoter in MCF-7 cells. Data indicate that the transcriptional activation is a cyclical process requiring both activation and repressive epigenetic processes.
