Protein translocation in the three domains of life: Variations on a theme

Article Abstract:

Extracytoplasmic proteins in cells reach their final destination across lipid bilayers. Protein translocation has been studied in bacteria and eukaryotes, and studies of the genome sequences in the archaea has shown that archael protein translocation mechanism comprise a combination of components similar to those of bacteria and eukaroytes. The protein translocation components of organisms from all three domains of life are compared.

Centromeric chromatin and epigenetic effects in kinetochore assembly

Article Abstract:

The assembly of DNA and protein complexes called kinetochores is influenced mainly by specialized centromeric chromatin and the effects of epigenetics. However, the effect of chromatins on kinetochore formation during mitosis in budding yeasts may differ from Drosophila and humans. The epigenetic component of kinetochores can be seen from the varying locations of centromeric chromatins in genetically identical cells.
