Pulsed electric field alters molecular chaperone expression and sensitizes Listeria monocytogenes to heat

Article Abstract:

The expressions of major molecular chaperones, before and after pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment in PEF-sensitive and PEF-resistant Listeria monocytogenes strains were compared and the effect of PEF treatment on the resistance of Listeria monocytogenes to heat was examined. The expressions of the molecular chaperones GroEL, GroES and DnaJ were altered by PEF treatment, thus making the cells with altered chaperone expressions, sensitive to heat treatment.

Selection and identification of a Listeria monocytogenes target strain for pulsed electric field process optimization

Article Abstract:

Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis of the genotypes of nine Listeria monocytogenes strains reveals that the strain OSY-8578 is siggnificantly more resistant to pulsed electric field than others with Scott A strain being most sensitive. However, results indicate show that total resistance to pulsed electric field is not associated with any strain.

Isolation and identification of a Paenibacillus polymyxa strain that coproduces a novel lantibiotic and polymyxin

Article Abstract:

The novel strain of Paenibacillus polymyxa named as OSY-DF is found to possess antimicrobial properties against a wide range of food-borne pathogens and food spoilage bacteria. The antimicrobial properties of this organism are attributed to a modified Lantibiotic and polymyxin E1.
