Quorum-sensing mutations affect attachment and stability of Burkholderia cenocepacia biofilms

Article Abstract:

The effects of mutations in the cepIR and cciIR quorum-sensing systems of Burkholderia cenocepacia K56-2 with respect to biofilm attachment and antibiotic resistance are examined. Results suggest that biofilm structural defects might be present in quorum-sensing mutants of B. cenocepacia that affects the stability and resistance of the adherent cell mass.

A mutation in the luxS gene influences listeria monocytogenes biofilm formation

Article Abstract:

A Vibrio harveyi reporter strain was used to demonstrate that Listeria monocytogenes secretes a functional autoinducer 2 (AI-2)-like signal. Exogenous AI-2 did not show major effect on biofilm mass and it is thus concluded that luxS gene is associated with repression of components needed for attachment and biofilm formation.

Biofilm interactions between distinct bacterial genera isolated from drinking water

Article Abstract:

The biofilm formation abilities and respiratory activities of the several bacteria isolated from drinking water were examined. Results conclude that the experiments did not provide precise mechanisms determining mixed biofilm formation.
