RAPDSIM: computer programs for modeling the RAPD assay on DNA sequences

Article Abstract:

RAPDSIM, a program written in Turbo C, simulates randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) assay on fully sequenced genes from prokaryotes and eukaryotes in order to map the chromosomes and determine the strain. This computer program is menu-driven and simulates the binding of a primer in the assay to DNA sequences. It gives the number, position and orientation of the annealed primers and the composition of the nucleotide bases. The number and size of the amplified products from one primer/DNA template combination and the similarity between four primers and templates can also be obtained.

Evidence for temperature-dependent selection for malate dehydrogenase allele frequencies in honeybee populations

Article Abstract:

Honeybees are divided into three racial types: the eastern European, the northern European and the African, a division well supported by microsatellite and microchondrial evidence. Molecular markers Apis m. mellifera and Apis m. ligustica are useful for distinguishing these groups. A new study describes how alleles derived from these populations have formed a temperature-dependent selection for malate dehydrogenase allele frequencies in New South Wales. Details of the study are presented.
