RNase-sensitive DNA modification(s) initiates S. pombe mating-type switching

Article Abstract:

An experiment to show that Schizosaccharomyces pombe (S. pombe) relies on RNase-sensitive modifications in the DNA that leads to mating-type switching is carried out. The results highlight that such imprints can become a guiding star for other cellular processes and mark the sites where the replication forks are stalled by damage to template DNA.

Visualizing Mu transposition: Assembling the puzzle pieces

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out in which an electron microscopy-based 3D model of the protein-DNA complex responsible for Mu transposition is presented. Details show that this model not only ties together years of accumulated biochemical and structural data, but also gives interesting insight in the case of the classical DNA transposons.

Two for the price of one: a bifunctional intron-encoded DNA endonuclease-RNA maturase

Article Abstract:

The dual role of homing endonucleases, a bifunctional intron is described. Homing endonucleases functioning, as maturases are intron specific and act as cofactors to bind their intron-containing precursor RNA to facilitate splicing. Masturases facilitates their integration to new sites din DNA.
