Rapid and sensitive method for the detection of Mycobacterium chlorophenolicum PCP-1 in soil based on 16S rRNA gene-targeted PCR

Article Abstract:

A 16S rRNA gene-targeted PCR and oligonucleotide probing technique is useful in identifying Mycobacterium chlorophenolicum PCP-1 in soils. The method allows the identification of PCP-1 in soils with a detection limit of 3 X 10 squared cells per g. The system is specific for PCP-1 as amplification of DNA products fails to produce cross-amplifiable background products. The efficiency levels of lysis of PCP-1 cells and DNA recovery are high.

Effects of plant biomass, plant diversity, and water content on bacterial communities in soil lysimeters: implications for the determinants of bacterial diversity

Article Abstract:

A high resolution survey is conducted on the soil bacterial diversity and its interdependence with environmental factors. The results have shown that the bacterial species composition in soil is determined by abiotic and biotic factors, which has highlighted a multitude of distinct ecological niches.

Quantification of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in arable soil by real-time PCR

Article Abstract:

Real-time PCR based on the 16S ribosomal DNA region of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in soil found about 6.2 x 10(super 7) bacteria per gram of soil in nitrogen-fertilized soils. This was about three times the amount of bacteria in unfertilized soil.
