Real-time quantitative PCR for assessment of abundance of Pseudoalteromonas species in marine samples

Article Abstract:

The relative and absolute abundance of Pseudoalteromonas species in marine samples is measured using a real-time quantitative PCR (RTQ-PCR) method. The results suggest that the members of the genus Pseudoalteromonas are present in large numbers in the marine environment.

Use of 16S rRNA and rpoB genes as molecular markers for microbiological ecology studies

Article Abstract:

The phylogenetic and evolutionary characteristics of 16S rRNA and rpoB gene are studied as markers for microbiological ecology studies. The intragenomic heterogeneity of these genes influences their role as ecological markers.

rpoB-based microbial community analysis avoids limitations inherent in 16S rRNA gene intraspecies heterogeneity

Article Abstract:

Genetic analysis using the RNA polymerase beta subunit can overcome the limitations of the 16S rRNA gene. Using the 16S rRNA gene overestimates the number of bacterial strains because the gene is heterogeneous.
