RecQ helicase, in concert with RecA and SSB proteins, initiates and disrupts DNA recombination

Article Abstract:

RecQ helicase is a significant factor in homologous recombination and DNA repair in Escherichia coli. RecQ helicase with RecA and SSB proteins can start recombination activity in vitro. RecQ protein can unwind a wide range of DNA substrates, among them joint molecules produced by RecA protein; it can be a starter of homologous recombination; it can disrupt joint molecules formed in nontypical recombination. Information about activities of eukaryotic homologs of RecQ helicase and the Sgs1, Wrn and B1m helicases has been increased.

The guanosine nucleotide (p)ppGpp initiates development and A-factor production in Myxococcus xanthus

Article Abstract:

Starvation prompts the accumulation of (p)ppGpp in Myxococcus xanthus and starts the fruiting body development process. There is also the production of the A-factor. Tests on a mutant show that (p)ppGpp accumulation was stopped because of earlier developmental problems. There was no A-factor production either. Escherichia coli relA gene helped rescue the mutant.

FGF8 initiates inner ear induction in chick and mouse

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted in order to determine whether inner ear induction in chicks and mouse was initiated due to Fgf8. The results of the study indicate that the Fgf8 plays an important role in an FGF signaling cascade, which is necessary for otic induction in chick and mouse.
