Reduced folate supply as a key to enhanced L-serine production by Corynebacterium glutamicum

Article Abstract:

The serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT) activity was controlled by 5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofolate (THF) to overcome inconvenient glyA chromosomal expression in constructs of Corynebacterium glutamicum strains. The THF synthesis identified and deleted the pabAB and pabC genes in Corynebacterium glutamicum and the resulting strains were shown to require folate or 4-aminobenzoate for growth.

NCgl2620 encodes a class II polyphosphate kinase in Corynebacterium glutamicum

Article Abstract:

The roles of the ppk2A (corresponds to NCgl0880) and ppk2B (corresponds to NCgl2620) gene products for polyphosphate biosynthesis in Corynebacterium glutamicum were determined. It was seen that deletion of ppk2B decreased PPK activity and cellular poly P content while over expression of ppk2A hanged specific activity of PPK or cellular poly P content.
