Repeat-length-independent broad-spectrum shuffling, a novel method of generating a random chimera library in vivo

Article Abstract:

A novel in vivo method of generating a random chimera library based on the combination of highly frequent deletion formation in the Escherichia coli ssb-3 strain with an rpsL-based chimera selection system is described. This system enables the selection of chimeras without the target gene expression and can therefore be applied to the chimeragenesis of cytotoxic targets even in their intact form.

Life history implications of rRNA gene copy number in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The role of the rRNA gene copy number as a central component of bacterial life histories is discussed by using strains of Escherichia coli in which one or two of the seven rRNA operons were deleted. Results support the hypothesis that the rRNA operon copy number is a component of bacterial life histories.

Cloning, sequencing, and expression of a Eubacterium cellulosolvens 5 gene encoding and endoglucanase (Cel5A) with novel carbohydrate-binding modules, and properties of Cel5A

Article Abstract:

A novel Eubacterium cellulosolvens 5 gene encoding an endoglucanase (Cel5A) is cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli, and its enzymatic properties are characterized. Observations reveal that carbohydrate-binding modules (CBMs) play an important role in the catalytic function of the enzyme.
