Development of a gene cloning and inactivation system for halorespiring Desulfitobacterium dehalogenans

Article Abstract:

An electroporation-based transformation procedure to create an efficient host-vector system in Desulfitobacterium dehalogenans is described. This microorganism can degrade pollutants in soils, aquifers, and sediments.

Clostridium beijerinckii cells expressing Neocallimastix patriciarum

Article Abstract:

Researchers have genetically engineered Clostridium beijeinckii with glycoside hydrolase genes from the rumen fungus Neocallimastix patriciarum that allow C. beijerinckii to grow on lichenan. Clostridium spp. can produce butanol and ethanol from carbohydrates and biomass is the most widely available substrate for this conversion.

Representational difference analysis and real-time PCR for strain-specific quantification of Lactobacillus sobrius sp. nov

Article Abstract:

A novel and strain-specific quantitative detection procedure is developed to follow the fate of Lactobacillus sobrius strain 001(super T) in dietary interventions. The described strain-specific quantification approach might be used in studies aimed at tracking bacterial strains added to specific environments.
