Rufous Hummingbird sucrose preference: Precision of selection varies with concentration

Article Abstract:

Potential selection of sucrose solutions by Rufous Hummingbirds was measured. They preferred 50% to higher and lower concentrations in sucrose solutions differing in increments of 10%, from 10% to 70%. There was no significant preference the range from 50% to 70%. They showed significant preferences varying with mean concentration in a curvilinear manner when options were offered in pairs of choices varying from 1-25%.

Factors influencing pair territoriality in the Juniper Titmouse

Article Abstract:

Research describing pair territoriality outside the breeding season for Juniper Titmice (Baeolophus ridgwayi) is presented. An analysis of food requirements suggests that this pattern of social organization may be a result of the distinctive diet of the titmice.
