SMC-mediated chromosome mechanics: a conserved scheme from bacteria to vertebrates?

Article Abstract:

Structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC)-mediated chromosome mechanics may be a conserved scheme from bacteria to vertebrates. Molecular mechanisms that underlie some structural changes of chromosomes have been not well understood. Research has shown a novel family of chromosomal ATPases, the structural maintenance of chromosome family, exists. Two distinct classes of SMC protein complexes, cohesins and condensins, have major roles in sister-chromatid cohesion and chromosome condensation, respectively.

Dynamic molecular linkers of the genome: The first decade of SMC proteins

Article Abstract:

The mechanistic action of structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) machines and the repertoire of their cellular functions are studied. The analysis of these SMC proteins complex would make great contributions to the understanding of basic mechanisms of SMC action and the evolution of he SMC-mediated segregation machinery.

The pathways and outcomes of mycobacterial NHEJ depend on the structure of the broken DNA ends

Article Abstract:

The impact of the structure of the broken DNA ends on the pathways and outcomes of the mycobacterial nonhomologous end-joining (NHEJ) system is discussed. The outcomes of the NHEJ are found to be highly dependent on DNA double-strand breaks, as well as the ensemble of the end-processing and end-sealing components.
