Salt-inducible multidrug efflux pumps protein in the moderately halophilic bacterium Chromohalobacter sp

Article Abstract:

The cloning of the gene responsible for multidrug resistance, the effects of gene disruption, and a high salt concentration of the corresponding protein is reported. The results indicate that HrdC is the outer membrane component of the putative efflux pump assembly and that it plays an important role in the observed induction of drug resistance by salt in the moderately halophilic bacterium, Chromohalobacter sp.

Synthesis of glycine betaine from exogenous choline in the moderately halophilic bacterium Halomonas elongata

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the function of choline in osmoprotection in the moderate halophile Halomonas elongata. Samples were taken at different time intervals while cells were obtained after two minutes of centrifugation in a microcentrifuge. Results indicated that NaCl concentration in the gropwth medium supported a major influence on the choline-betaine pathway of H. elongata.

Autoinducer-2-producing protein LuxS, a novel salt- and chloride-induced protein in the moderately halophilic bacterium Halobacillus halophilus

Article Abstract:

The genomic organization of luxS of Halobacillus halophilus, its regulation and the cellular function of LuxS in the context of the chloride regulon are discussed. LuxS of Halobacillus halophilus is produced only in the presence of chloride and it might be a central player in the chloride regulon of Halobacillus halophilus.
