Seasonal movements of marbled murrelets: evidence from banded birds

Article Abstract:

Little is known about the distribution of Marbled Murrelets during the nonbreeding season, but the use of marked individuals makes it possible to relate specific breeding populations with wintering populations. A murrelet banded during the breeding season in 1995 at Theodosia Inlet, BC, was recaptured during the fall of 1996 near Orcas Island, Washington State, some 220 km away from the original banding location. It was again captured during the summer of 1997 at Theodosia Inlet. The study suggests that both migratory and nonmigratory individuals can be found within a single summering population.

Foraging distances of radio-marked Marbled Murrelets from inland areas in southeast Alaska

Article Abstract:

Research concerning the use of radio-marked Marbled Murrelets to study behavioural patterns during the breeding season in Alaska is presented. The birds were recorded at up to 124 km from their breeding sites.

Activity patterns of marbled murrelets in Douglas-fir old-growth forests of the Oregon coast range

Article Abstract:

Research concerning the daily activity and vocalizations of marbled murrelets, during breeding seasons over a three year period, is presented. The birds were studied in forests in the Oregon Coast Range.
