Mislocalization of oskar product in the anterior pole results in ectopic localization of mitochondrial large ribosomal RNA in Drosophila embryos

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the effect of osk mRNA on the localization of mitochondrial large ribosomal RNA (mtlrRNA) in the germ plasm during early embrogenesis. In situ hybridization revealed high concentrations of mtlrRNA at the anterior regions on the polar granules of embryos. Since polar granules play a role in pole cell formation, it follows that mtlrRNA also participates in pole cell formation, but depending on the function of the osk gene.
