Simultaneous detection and identification of common cell culture contaminant and pathogenic Mollicutes strains by reverse line blot hybridization

Article Abstract:

A reverse line blot (RLB) hybridization assay to detect and identify the commonest mollicutes causing cell line contamination and human infection is developed. The RLB hybridization assay is sensitive and specific and able to rapidly detect and identify molliculate species from clinical and cell line specimens.

"Candidatus Bacilloplasma," a novel lineage of Mollicutes associated with the hindgut wall of terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber (Crustacea: Isopoda)

Article Abstract:

Several experiments are conducted to study the properties of Candidatus Bacilloplasma, a novel lineage of Mollicutes associated with the hindgut wall of terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber (Crustacea: Isopoda). The bacteria have been found to be very advantageous because of its pointed, rod-like morphology.

Species-specific PCR for identification of common contaminant mollicutes in cell culture

Article Abstract:

Researchers developed species-specific PCR methods for detecting Mollicutes that contaminate cell cultures based on the 16S rRNA genes, the 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer regions, and the 5' end of the 23S rRNA genes. The Mollicutes class includes Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma species.
