Source tracking aerosols released from land-applied class B biosolids during high-wind events

Article Abstract:

The unintended aerosolization of land-applied, anaerobically digested sewage sludge (biosolids) during high-wind events is specifically and sensitively tracked through the developed DNA-based microbial source tracking (MST) methods. It is confirmed that the wind is a possible mechanism for the aerosolization and off-site transport of land-applied biosolids.

Detection and transformation of genome segments that differ within a costal population of Vibrio cholerae strains

Article Abstract:

The study presents the detection and transformation of various genome segments that differ within a coastal population of the Vibrio cholrea strains. The small size of the transformed DNA shows that natural competence can easily mediate the movement of large chromosome fragments.

Wide Geographic distribution of bacteriophages that lyse the same indigenous freshwater isolate (Sphingomonas sp. strain B18)

Article Abstract:

Results reveal that the 44 phages isolated from 13 different freshwater and brackish habitats, using an indigenous freshwter bacterium, are morphologically diverse and exhibit diverse restriction patterns.
