A selective medium and a specific probe for detecion of Vibrio vulnificus

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that the selective medium and the probe for the detection of Vibrio vulnificus are specific and is able to detect the bacteria from mixed bacterial suspensions and spiked mussels.

Integrated analysis of established and novel microbial and chemical methods for microbial source tracking

Article Abstract:

A multilaboratory research was conducted wherein various microbial and chemical indicators were examined to differentiate the sources of human fecal from nonhuman fecal sources using wastewaters and slurries from different geographical regions within Europe. It was concluded that none of the tested microbial and chemical parameters were alone able to determine the source of fecal pollution in wastewaters and slurries and therefore, a suite of parameters was required.

Species-specific detection of Vibrio anguillarum in marine aquaculture environments by selective culture and DNA hybridization

Article Abstract:

A method using a selective-differential agar medium and a nonradioactively labeled oligonucleotide complementary to 16S rRNA detects the presence of Vibrio anguillarum from complex marine microbial colonies. The only samples containing the bacteria give positive results. The selectivity of the method gives one cell of V. anguillarum in 10,000 bacterial cells. The method is as sensitive as the post-PCR hybridization method. It allows the study of the ecology of V. anguillarum and the detection of vibriosis infections of fish in marine aquaculture.
