Specific ribosomal DNA sequences from diverse environmental settings correlate with experimental contaminants

Article Abstract:

The possibility that some putative environmental rRNA sequences are contaminant sequences has been studied by cloning and sequencing PCR-amplified 16S rDNA fragments. The latter have been obtained at low levels in the absence of added template DNA. Results revealed that 16S rDNA sequences closely related to the genera Duganella, Acinetobacter, Lephotrix, Escherichia, Stenotrophomonas and Herbaspirillum were present in the contaminant and clone libraries. The detected rRNA sequences could be common contaminants in reagents used to prepare genomic DNA.

Molecular analysis of shower curtain biofilm microbes

Article Abstract:

The vinyl shower curtains collect films generally known as soap scum, which microscopically indicate the composition of microbial biofilms. The outcome indicates that the shower curtains form a significant basis of the opportunistic pathogens, which are related to the biofilms.

A portable anaerobic microbioreactor reveals optimum growth conditions for the methanogen Methanosaeta concilii

Article Abstract:

A microbioreactor ([mu]BR) which was developed to study some optimum growth conditions for the methanogen Methanosaeta concilii could provide rapid, direct insight into the behavior and growth of anaerobic microorganisms.
