Stable-carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios of songbird feathers grown in two terrestrial biomes: implications for evaluating trophic relationships and breeding origins

Article Abstract:

There is considerable variation in stable-nitrogen isotope signatures in feathers of birds and related foodwebs between birds breeding in woodland linked with southern prairie agricultural regions and those in temperate boreal forest. It appears that it is not possible to include birds from different biomes within the same model, even though the stable-isotope approach may be used to analyze trophic relationships between birds feeding and growing feathers within biomes.

Breeding bird communities in Boreal Forest of Western Canada: Consequences of 'unmixing' the mixedwoods

Article Abstract:

Research recording communities of birds on the Western Canadian Boreal Forest is presented. Particular attention is given to the effect of forestry practices on the resident bird populations. Types of habitats specific to species of birds are established.

Movement patterns of adult male Ovenbirds during the post-fledging period in fragmented and forested boreal landscapes

Article Abstract:

Research describing the movement patterns of Ovenbirds (Seiurus aurocapillus) in agricultural and forest landscapes is presented. An analysis shows that male Ovenbirds will cross considerable gaps but are often absent from isolated patches of forest.
