Strain- and genotype-specific differences in virulence of Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae, a bacterial pathogen causing American foulbrood disease in honeybees

Article Abstract:

Virulence variations of Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae, the causative agent of American foulbrood disease of honeybees, are investigated. Results show that the strain-specific 50% lethal concentrations varied within an order of magnitude and that differences in amount of time for the pathogen to kill 100% of the infected host correlated with genotype.

Outcome of colonization of Apis mellifera by Nosema ceranae

Article Abstract:

Parallel detection of honeybee microsporidians (Nosema apis and Nosema ceranae) is methodized. The colonization of Apis mellifera by Nosema ceranae is found to be related to bee losses as indicated by the association between the presence of Nosema ceranae and hive depopulation.

Spread of infectious chronic bee paralysis virus by honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) feces

Article Abstract:

The presence of infectious chronic bee paralysis virus (CBPV) in bee excreta is evaluated and its role as an indirect route of infection is investigated. Infectious CBPV particles excreted in the feces of infected bees infect naive bees.
