Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) lacks a genomic island present in the chromosome of streptomyces lividans 66

Article Abstract:

A detailed analysis of Streptomyces lividans ZX1, which turns out to be a pleiotropic mutant with a large chromosomal delection of ca. 90 kb, whose delection junctions in the wild-type strain 66 and the deletion and fused sequence in strain ZX1 are localized and characterized. Comparison of s. lividans ZX1 and its progenitor 66 reveals that the ca. 90-kb deletion in strain ZX1 may have originated from an insertion from an unknown source.

In situ monitoring of streptothricin production by Streptomyces rochei F20 in soil and rhizosphere

Article Abstract:

The onset of streptothricin (ST) biosynthesis in Streptomyces rochei F20 is analyzed by using reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) to detect transcripts of ST genes during growth in liquid medium, soil and the rhizosphere. The results suggests that neither ST resistance (sttR) nor biosynthesis (sttA) transcripts were detected by RT-PCR in the rhizoplane, which supported a lower population density of F20 than the rhizosphere.

Characterization of the Streptomyces sp. strain C5 snp locus and development of snp-derived expression vectors

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that the snp locus in Streptomyces sp. strain C5 consists of two divergent genes, spaA, a metalloproteinase gene and snpR encoding an activator of snpA transcription. Data indicate that the snpA promoter produces reporter protein and the promoter is built into a set of transcriptional and translational fusion expression vectors.
