Structural basis for double-sieve discrimination of L-valine from L-isoleucine and L-threonine by the complex of tRNA(sup)val and valyl-tRNA synthetase

Article Abstract:

Crystal structure of the complex between valyl-tRNA synthetase, tRNA, and an analog of the valine intermediate reveals that the enzyme is capable of discriminating cognate L-valine from L-isoleucine and L-threonine by a "double sieve" mechanism, which is tRNA-dependent.

Structural basis for transcription regulation by Alarmone ppGpp

Article Abstract:

An experimental evidence to show the importance of base-specific contacts between Guanosine-tetraphosphate (ppGpp) and specific cytosine residues during transcription and elongation are presented. The result reveals that base pairing of ppGpp with cytosines in the nontemplate DNA strand may be an essential component of transcription control by ppGpp.
