The CLAVATA1 gene encodes a putative receptor kinase that controls shoot and floral meristem size in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

The nucleotide sequence of the cloned CLV1 gene and its expression in Arabidopsis thaliana was analyzed to characterize its biochemical and genetic functions during cell division. Sequence analysis of the cloned CLV1 gene indicated its role in mediating the cellular signal transduction processes that promote cell differentiation or proliferation. Furthermore, the CLV1 messenger RNA was expressed in the central region of the shoot and in the early flower meristems of Arabidopsis thaliana.

Ethylene responses are negatively regulated by a receptor gene family in Arabidopsis thaliana

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the isolation of loss-of-function mutations of a receptor gene family in Arabidopsis thaliana. Receptor-related genes were amplified by polymerase chain reaction using gene-specific primers. Results indicated that proteins negatively influence ethylene responses. Findings also showed that the induction of ethylene response in Arabidopsis is carried out through inactivation.

The perianthia gene encodes a bZIP protein involved in the determination of floral organ number in Arabidopsis thaliana

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that floral organ number is determined by the perianthia (PAN) gene. Immunohistochemical analysis locates a PAN-encoded bZIP protein in both apical and floral meristems and ovule and organ primordia, signifying PAN's role in flower development. Transgenic plants that overexpress PAN nearly lack a phenotype, implying PAN may be post-translationally regulated.
