The HMGI-C gene is a likely candidate for the autosomal dwarf locus in the chicken

Article Abstract:

Eleven segregating families of chicken were constructed to map the autosomal dwarf (adw) locus in chicken. Genetic linkage of the adw locus to five different microsatellite markers on chromosome 1 was observed. The high-mobility group protein I-C (HMGI-C) gene was found to be a prime candidate for the adw locus in the chicken. Fluorescence in situ hybridization of metaphase chromosomes with the chicken HMGI-C gene as a probe, revealed that the chicken HMGI-C gene is closely linked to marker LEI146 on chromosome 1.

Development of a chicken z-chromosome-specific DNA library

Article Abstract:

A chicken Z-chromosome-specific DNA library was generated by chromosome microisolation and microcloning. Its role as a painting probe to identify the Z-chromosome homolog in turkey was also explored. This library was foreseen to facilitate the developement of z-chromosome-specific markers that will be useful for genetic mapping in domestic chicken and other avian species. It will also be useful for sex chromosome evolution studies in avian species.
