The citrate transport system of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis biovar diacetylactis is induced by acid stress

Article Abstract:

An acid stress response occurring at the transcriptional level and which appears to be due to increased utilization of the P1 promoter induces citrate transport in Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis biovar diacetylactis. Transcription of citrate permease P and citrate uptake both increase when cells are grown at low pHs. Such increased citrate transport results in more efficient glucose utilization, thus providing a growth advantage for L. lactis subsp. lactis biovar diacetylactis at acid pHs.

Cometabolism of citrate and glucose by Enterococcus faecium FAIR-198 in the absence of cellular growth

Article Abstract:

Citrate metabolism by Enterococcus faecium FAIR-E 198, an isolate from Greek feta cheese, was studied in modified MRS (mMRS) medium under different pH conditions and glucose and citrate concentrations. It was observed that E. faecium FAIR-198 was able to mobilize another energy source present in the medium.
