The cyro-EM structure of a translation initiation complex from Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The 70S ribosome and its complement of factors required for initiation of translating in E. coil were purified separately and reassembled in vitro with GDPNP producing a stable initiation complex (IC) stalled after 70S assembly. A cryo-EM reconstruction of the IC showing IF2.GDPNP at the intersubunit cleft of the 70S ribosome is obtained.

Nascent ribosomes

Article Abstract:

This review examines recent understanding about the ribosomal RNA transcript conversion to a nascent cytoplasmic ribosome. Data suggest that ribosomal RNA processing involves a large number of accessory RNA and protein factors, their assembly and finally their export to the cytoplasm.
