The economies of evolution

Article Abstract:

The conservation includes homology of transcribed sequences, genetic linkage groups and large segments of chromosomes, difference in chromosomes number and structure result from illegitimate meiotic recombination between DNA repeats within and between nonhomologous chromosomal regions. The evolutionary re-break points occur at sites of ancestral centromeres, interchromosomal rearrangements are the result of accidental crossing-over between homologous segments and the non-homologous chromosomes segments.

DNA barcodes: Recent successes and future prospects

Article Abstract:

Deoxyribonucleic acid barcoding, or DNA barcoding, where just a small portion of a single gene can identify species from a wide taxonomic range including animals such as fish, birds and insects, faces criticism and taxonomic debate from several scholars. A discussion on some of the more successful studies in the field includes some drawbacks of the method as well as a view of the future prospects of DNA barcoding.

Mitochondrial simple sequence repeats and 12S-rRNA gene reveal two distinct lineages of Crocidura russula (Mammalia, Soricidae)

Article Abstract:

A short segment of the control region and a partial sequence of the 12S-rRNA gene in the mitochondrial DNA of Crocidura russula are analyzed in order to examine a previous hypothesis regarding the presence of a gene flow disruption in northern Africa.
