The genetic contribution of single male immigrants to small, inbred populations: a laboratory study using Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

A laboratory study in Australia using Drosophila melanogaster has been carried out to look into the genetic contribution of single male immigrants to small, inbred populations and the effect of inbreeding on immigrant fitness. Findings suggest inbreeding may have a considerable impact on contributions of immigrants to genetic diversity of populations.

Refinements to the partitioning of the inbred genotypic variance

Article Abstract:

The author discuss the study on phenotype inheritance. The topics of interest include anomalities in the total genetic variance, the inbred average alle-substitution effect and the relationship between the population dispersion structure and genetic efficiency in selection.

The genetic structure of Drosophila subobscura populations from the islands of Majorca and Minorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) based on allozymes and mitochondrial DNA

Article Abstract:

The genetic structure of seven Drosophila subobscura populations of Majorca and Minorca, two islands, is discussed based on restriction analysis study of mitochondrial DNA and allozymes. Results with the marker types were consistent. Cytonuclear disequilibrium analyses showed difficulty of detecting cytonuclear associations in natural populations because of transience.
