The pattern of gene amplification is determined by the chromosomal location of hairpin-capped breaks

Article Abstract:

The fate of the rearranged intermediates and how they can be directed into chromosomal aberrations are investigated. The specific outcomes of gene amplification have depended on the applied selection, the nature of the break and the chromosomal location of the amplified gene relative to the site of the hairpin-capped double-stranded breaks (DSBs) and a yeast model system is used to define a novel, palindrome-dependent pathway of gene amplification that can mimic the formation of oncogene amplicons in humans.

Vascular development in the retina and inner ear: Control by Noorin and Frizzled-4, a high affinity ligand-receptor pair

Article Abstract:

The retinal vasculature, which plays an important role in the pathogenesis of many common human diseases, has been investigated in detail and it is known that incomplete retinal vascularization occurs in both Norrie as well as familial exudative viteoretinopathy. Studies conducted show that Norrin and Fz4 function as a ligand-receptor pair based on the similarity of vascular phenotypes caused due to Norrin and Fz4 mutations in humans and mice.

Mechanism of activation of the RAF-ERK signaling pathway by oncogenic mutations of B-RAF

Article Abstract:

Over thirty mutations, a majority of the people residing in the kinase domain, of the B-RAF gene associated with human cancers are identified. Studies show that of the 22 B-RAF mutants analyzed, eighteen have elevated kinase activity and signal to ERK in-vivo.
