Multiplex nucleic acid sequence-based amplification for simultaneous detection of several enteric viruses in model ready-to-eat foods

Article Abstract:

The development of a multiplex nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (NASBA) assays for the simultaneous detection of hepatitis A virus and genogroup I and genogroup II novoviruses, and the application of this assay to the detection of viral contamination in model ready-to-eat foods are discussed. Future efforts are required to focus on applying the assay to other food matrices, to naturally contaminated food samples, and on the development of real-time NASBA methods.

Comparison of direct genome restriction enzyme analysis and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis for typing of Vibrio vulnificus and their correspondence with multilocus sequence typing data

Article Abstract:

The potential of direct genome restriction enzyme analysis (DGREA) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) for discriminating Vibrio vulnificus isolates is compared. DGREA has shown clearer relationships among Vibrio vulnificus strains and is consistent with multilocus sequence typing (MLST) than with PFGE.

Antimicrobial resistance of enterococcus species isolated from produce

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to characterize the antibiotic resistance profiles of enterococcus species isolated from fresh produce harvested in the southwestern United States. The data collected would be useful to elucidate the role of foods in the transmission of antibiotic-resistant strains to human populations.
