Fermentable-sugar-level-dependent regulation of leukotoxin synthesis in a variably toxic strain of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the toxic strains of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. The sequencing of the promoter region for the 301-b ltx operon and determining the effect of the extra sugar level on the ltx operon transcription has been investigated via the Northern blot analysis and the results are presented.

Energy metabolism of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans during anaerobic and microaerobic growth in low- and high-potassium continuous culture

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that rapidly growing cells of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, under anaerobic and microaerobic conditions, require higher concentrations of extracellular potassium for respiration as measured by ATP production and overall energy metabolism.

The relationships between leukotoxin production, growth rate and the bicarbonate concentration in a toxin-production-variable strain of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Article Abstract:

The consequences of growth rate and bicarbonate on the leukotoxin production of the Gram-negative periodontopathic bacterium Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans during growth in a chemostat were studied. Findings indicated that the apparent leukotoxin production is caused by growth-rate-dependent production and growth-rate-independent decomposition. In batch culture, leukotoxin production halted instantaneously and the amount of cellular toxin decreased rapidly.
