Heteroplasmy and homoplasmy for maize mitochondrial mutants: A rare homoplasmic nad4 deletion mutant plant

Article Abstract:

Nonchromosomal strip (NCS) mutants of maize carry deletions of some essential mitochondrial genes. NCS deletion mutations appear to result from rare recombination over small repeated sequences. It is reported that homoplasmic nad4 deletion mutant cultures can be easily generating and maintained from ears of NCS2 striped plants. Also the first case of a rare hompoplasmic nad4 deletion mutant plant is reported.

Transcription signals of mitochondrial and nuclear genes for mitochondrial proteins in dicot plants

Article Abstract:

Mitochondria contain many large multisubunit enzyme complexes comprising proteins encoding in nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. Expression of respective mitochondrial and nuclear genes must be coordinated for correct assembly of such enzyme complexes. Mitochondrial promoters in dicot plants were analyzed to determine the respective transcription signals.
