Time of day of ovulation by three duck species in subarctic Alaska

Article Abstract:

Variations in ovulation times of Northern Pintails, Lesser Scaup and American Wigeon in subarctic Alaskan wetlands were studied. Ovulation times were found to be highly variable, with Lesser Scaup demonstrating a morning peak. The variations indicate that fitness is not linked to egg-laying time, and egg-laying intervals could have more adaptive significance than egg-laying time.
