Tripartite haemolysin BL: isolation and characterization of two distinct homologous sets of components from a single Bacillus cereus isolate

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that haemolysin BL toxin belongs to a family of multicomponent toxins evolved by gene and operon duplication at the intracellular or horizontal genetic transfer levels. Results indicate that two distinct homologous sets of the toxin exist in Bacillus cereus isolate MGBC 145.

Cooperative, synergistic and antagonistic haemolytic interactions between haemolysin BL, phosphatidylcholine phospholipase C and sphingomyelinase from Bacillus cereus

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on haemolysis of erythrocytes from various species. The potential for synergistic interactions among virulence factors in Bacillus cereus infections and dependence of these effects on the composition of the tissue are discussed.

Genetic modulation of Shigella flexneri 2a lipopolysaccharide O antigen modal chain length reveals that it has been optimized for virulence

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on lipopolysaccharide molecules of Shigella flexneri 2a which have O antigen polysaccharides. The authors suggest that S. flexneri synthesizes lipopolysaccharides with Oag modal chain lengths.
