Trophic relationships among six species of Icelandic seabirds as determined through stable isotope analysis

Article Abstract:

Combined stable isotope signatures of Icelandic seabirds show substantial inter-species and inter-site variation. The trophic structures of the seabird assemblages at north Ireland and south Iceland are different. This may suggest dietary segregation not highlighted by conventional dietary assessment. This research used a dual-isotope multiple-source mixing model to estimate contributions of various prey species to the diet of seabirds based on their isotope signatures.

Sensory and hormonal control of clutch size in birds

Article Abstract:

The characterization of clutch size control in different bird taxas and of determinate or indeterminate layer species classification is discussed. Observations on egg laying, egg removal experiments, laying female anatomy and gonadotrophin secretion inhibition were used in the examination. The relation of laying patterns to food availability and time variability in the evolution of bird clutch size control was established.
